Biography
Not often does a guy and a chick rock duo combine explosive guitar riffs and backbone bass playing with energizing synth sounds and their very own meaningful lyrics. George McRad(A.k.a. George Hosni) and The Scooterz are all about writing songs that inspire.
The Scooterz roots can be traced back to the desert of El Paso, TX in the early 90's where George and Omar grew up together starting their first band "Startled Calf". In his teens, George moved away from TX to Denver, CO still keeping in touch with and the rest of his friends. When moving to Colorado George started his own punk band, "Four", touring nationally and sharing the stage with many well known punk bands such as Rancid, AFI, Reel Big Fish, and many more. He later was frontman of "The Smiley Kids" which sold over 100,000 units and toured with Switchfoot and many others. George, still growing musically, wanted to start a new band that would allow him to play all styles in one band. On the look out for new members while he wrote song after song. Meanwhile his wife who had been involved in choir and other musical projects, always had an interest in being in a band. Knowing how to work the vocals but never played an instrument, asked for bass lessons. George then realized his wife would be the perfect band mate. So it Began in 2002 with only a few band practices. The new band name would be The Scooterz. Now they were ready to start touring and playing shows. As years go by they lived in El Paso, TX, Brea, CA, Lancaster, PA and Denver, CO, Never forgetting where they came from El Paso, TX. The Scooterz have played many shows including The Hard Rock Café, yes even New York's famous CBGB's, LA's Club Good Hurt, Denver's Gothic Theater, and many many other special venues. With an exciting fan base of over 30,000 and growing daily, The Scooterz high energy Neon Rock band is catching everyone's attention and inspiring many.
On the go in 2002 , The Scooterz released their debut album "Corner of Depression". George opened up with real life stories that he tied into his song writing about depression, hate, happiness, and inspiration.
Time well spent, the bands D.I.Y. attitude gets fans attached instantly. "Sometimes we silkscreen t-shirts in the parking lot before shows and often record our songs in our apartment closet."
The loving energy earned The Scooterz vocalist/guitarist/programmer, George, and his wife/bassist, Misty, an invitation in 2003 to be a part of a tribute album to The Cure called "Strange As Angels: A Tribute to the Cure". Playing an amazing cover of the song "Just Like Heaven" produced by Thomas Lester who also produced "Adios Amigos" by The Ramones.
Over the past several years radio stations have enjoyed songs like "High School Reject" and "Life Styles of the Poor and Homeless" as well as a Live Radio Performance of "Simple Question". Even Fishbone enjoyed them on their birthday bash in 2004 at Club Good Hurt in Santa Monica, CA.
Fresh Spring of 2005 The Scooterz took part in the "Hot Topic Foundation" benefit concert. This Organization is dedicated to keeping music and art programs in school. (If you also would like to help please go to www.hottopic.com)
Taking you back to the 80's In great honor the Scooterz open for Virgin Records best band from the 80's "The Human League" on September 26th 2006 at the BlueBird Theater in Denver Colorado. The place was packed wall to wall with people dancing to "Don’t You Want Me Baby?". Best show of 2006!
Hollywood calls The Scooterz in August of 2007. Where they record their new hit single “E=mc2”,and their remake of “Sunglasses at Night” at Hollywood’s famous West Lake studio that Frank Sinatra couldn’t even resist.
Best kept secret of 2008 has been released. Yes The Scooterz will be heading back to Hollywood to film there new music video for E=mc2, they will be working with Emmy nominated Chris Bond of Frantic Film who is known for the special effects in Superman Returns and X-men, also working with Lukas Film’s whom has great classics like Indiana Jones and Star Wars.
News for Spring of 2008! The Scooterz are assembling a third tour across the United States to promote their new album "Robot Nation". This Neon Rock album will blow your mind.
Musically, The Scooterz draw as much from The Cure and The Killers as from The Ramones to Modern English to create driving guitar riffs with strong catchy melodies that create a new sound, Neon Rock!
