About RED fORTY

"Well it’s been a long road so far and it doesn’t seem to be getting any shorter". That’s the way we like to view music. As long as creativity exists; so will music. But it sure has been a rocky road too. We’ve had our fair share of mishaps and accidents (not to point any fingers Curtis!), but it seems to be going well so far. Now let us tell you a story about a band named RED fORTY:

P.S. the rhyme was intentional

It all started with a little band called Fallon. Comprised of current members Mike VanderSanden, Curtis Kotecki, and previous memeber Justin VanderSanden, Fallon was a rock group with three guitarists and a drum machine. It may seem rather unglamorous, but aren’t all seeds of greatness and worth before they grow? Anyway, a bit after the development of Fallon, they looked for a drummer, who would turn out to be Nate Bell. Upon this development Curtis left this band for a number of reasons and it was left to drums, guitar, and bass with Justin at the helm. Things looked grim until one day Dan Molgaard received a phone call from Mr. Mike. Dan would later play with the band at a practice and would be appointed to the position of Rhythm Guitarist. He was stoked to say the least. A little Kansas boy becoming a Rock Star who knew!? All was well for a while as Brian Applegate had settled in as singer of this ragtag group of musicians. Plans started for a show in the near future, but because of scheduling conflicts, Nate Bell was lost. But the band was not finished. Upon recommendation from others, Zach Rudio was found and asked to play for the band after his amazing skill was witnessed. "He drums as if he has the wings of a humming bird" (actually no one said that I just made it up) and everything seemed perfect and in place. After a month of planning and practice, the band, now christened RED fORTY (the idea for the name seems relatively unknown to this day) was playing their first show at Higgins Hall. It was a good show featuring such acts as Hello Newman and Goodnight Sunrise and it was believed that RED fORTY had made a positive impact. But it all seemed to go downhill from there. There was a show set up at Dauphines in June that went down with no advertisement and there was little turnout. A plague of show-canceling throughout the summer began because of vacations and work shedules and RED fORTY went under the radar until October of that year. In that time, however, Brian had seemed to fall away from the band such that RED fORTY began to look for a new singer and Jade Mason hopped on for a while. It just wasn’t the same though and eventually Dan took over singing as Justin gave up work time to play bass. The October 30th, November 9th, and November 30th shows featured Dan singing and Justin on bass, along with Curtis’ return to the band. Things were getting better, but weren’t there yet. Upon ungroundedment, Brian Applegate returned as singer and rocked the vox at the January 18th Pajama Party Rockfest (by far our best show to date), Kicking off 2008 with a bang. Everything was back to normal and has been ever since.

We hope to have merchandise and an EP out by late April or May. We must also thank all of our fans and everyone who attends the shows at the Boys and Girls Club because when the money isn’t helping us with recording and whatnot, it’s going to a good cause and we’re all about fighting for the good cause.

Thanks for the add Red 40 Rock....yeah, the 40 rock, huh? Wondering what that's an analogy to? Last time we had some rock, it cost a little more than $40.00 and it wasn't red either, but to each their own, just jokin'---seriously, we don't smoke rock......we inject it. Keep on rockin' it up guys.
