ABOUT DWI:
The phrase "Dark World" was first used in reference to a 1992 underground video series released by J.A.Bohr. When the video series "Ennui Entertainment Presents..." aired on North American public access television (1995-1996) he used Dark World as a company name, and Dark World International history officially began.
When Ennui Entertainment (the original indie label to carry Milwaukee's Black Orchid) folded, Dark World gained the rights to the Black Orchid master tapes. In 1995 Dark World acquired the rights to the music of Infinisynth, restructured as an indie label, and became a BMI music publisher. Kris Ameringer was brought in as President of the label, and helped Dark World grow from a company to a partnership, and finally, to a North American corporation.
In 2005, Dark World completed its move to Ireland. Reborn as Dark World International, this indie label now boasts digital distribution on iTunes and an artist roster than spans the rock, industrial, dance, and metal genres.
ABOUT DARKWORLD.COM:
Dark World hit the internet in 1996 with www.darkworld.com. Originally designed to market the bands and their releases, darkworld.com was years ahead of the industry in using the internet to publicize themselves. To help capture a larger internet audience, darkworld.com expanded beyond the usual band hype to include an award winning surrealist visual area that transports visitors to the Planet Mythos. Both management and artists continue to contribute plot developments, maze and game concepts, music, art, poetry, literature, industry information and herbal research to darkworld.com.
Actually they still do just not the extent that they did back in the day. That is essentially what a record deal is. It is much like a bank loan. To pay for touring, promotion, recording and pressing CDs. Record companies have to advance money to bands other wise you would never hear about any of these bands. What most bands don't understand is that this money must be paid back and the record company has to retain a profit from your band after the money is advanced. Basically these days if your album goes gold you have made enough money to pay back the record company. Majors have to dish out advances or they would not reap any benefits (regardless of what musicweek claims)In other words you have to spend money to make money. This has been and always will be true. Musicweek is also a business and has to make thier articles interesting for people to read them. This really is a sleazy, deceptive business all the way around. The reward is the reaction you get from your fans when they like your music and buy your albums.
