MOUTHFUL OF FLIES

3.5

STOP PRESS!! MOUTHFUL OF FLIES ALSO CONTRIBUTED THE TRACK 'DEADENED SOUL' TO DISC ONE OF A TWO DISC CD GIVEAWAY FEATURING 33 TRACKS OF PURE UNADULTERATED METAL IN THIS MONTHS ZT MAGAZINE.

This is focussed and robust modern metal packing a hefty punch, but with plenty of melody and hooks in evidence. There are a host of influences on display but they have been stirred up in a pot and blended into something quite original. With big thudding riffs embellished with some quality guitar touches and roar along choruses. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Mouthful of Flies found themselves appealing to rather a lot of people.

IMPRESSIVE DEBUT OF HARD-AS-NAILS METAL WITH A CYBER TWIST
THERE'S ABSOLUTELY no let up on this British band's full length debut - and ear burning stuff it is too. Though ostensibly a straight ahead metal band, Mouthful of Flies have livened up what might sound a tired and familiar formula with shreds of synths and industrial twists, evident epsecially in the way the vocals are recorded. Guitars are fearsome and fabulously regimented, and, unlike so many bands of this ilk, the songs are great too. Breeder storms in like a rabid dog while the other relatively considered Lost and March Of The Clones impress with their imposing hooks and outright volume. An excellent independant release.

MOUTHFUL OF FLIES - TEN:NEGATIVE:SIXES (9/10) - GREAT BRITAIN 2008
VISIT THE WEBSITE AND READ THE REVIEW HERE
Saddled with the ungainly moniker of Metal Thrashing Mad, London band MOUTHFUL OF FLIES debut album, ‘’Ten: Negative: Sixes,’’ is an uncompromising hard-as-nails Metal record incorporating a miasma of current and old school sounds. And their influences are not to their detriment as they concoct a neck snapping tirade of rabid riffs, gravel pit vocals and pounding double bass drums.
Not normally my favourite area of Metal, MOUTHFUL OF FLIES certainly doesn’t do things by half. Their take on Metal music is thoroughly modern, robust and weirdly has a huge undercurrent of intense melody. Both ‘’March Of The Clones’’, ‘’Believe The Lie’’ and ‘’Blatant Frenzy’’ are excellent stabs of well written, catchy focused Heavy Metal. Riff after riff roll over a steel wall strength backline that certainly takes some beating.
Some bands surprise when you least expect it; MOUTHFUL OF FLIES is one such band. It’s been a while since I attested to the potential greatness of a UK outfit but these guys could well be heading straight to the top of the stack.

Power Play 95 - February 2008
MOUTHFUL OF FLIES
"Ten:Negative:Sixes"
Genre: Metal
Speeding Demon

Hold the front page: a British band that isn't just trying to sound like someone else! Mouthful of Flies are certainly not trying to conform to any trend that may be shifting big units here at the moment, yet they have crafted a sound that will please fans of many different bands, and one that justifies the, excuse the awful pun, buzz that is around them at the moment.
For a debut album, this is impressive stuff. Mouthful of Flies are not afraid to show off their influences - there are elements of In Flames, American Head Charge, Black Sabbath and Meshuggah here - but the style that comes out of the other end is a promising new take on metal that still has enough of what you already know and love to draw you in. "Deadened Soul", "Believe The Lie" and "Black Magick" all highlight the band's talents - those being accomplished musicianship coupled with an impressive ability to craft an excellent selection of heavy songs.
The fact that Mouthful of Flies have only been together for little over a year makes this debut all the more striking. This album is a tremendous start to their career, so don't be surprised if you see this name thrown about throughout 2008. This band has the potential to do extremely well. Here's hoping they achieve it.

Hurrah! A new heavy metal band that doesn't sound like a billion others. Come to think of it, I can't think of one they do sound like, an accomplishment in itself. M:o:F are a modern metal band with influences ranging from the cleaner sheen of Korn (for high end guitar noises), with aspects from Paradise Lost (for atmosphere), and an aggressive clear voice. Opener "Believe The Lie" is a midpace stomper, "Blatant Frenzy" is speedy aggro with a kickass riff (and surely the best song title of the year), and "Breeder" is what Korn would sound like if they went all punk or summink. "Fucking blatant".
