Why is Cyqo Music Here?

Cyqo Music is a personal project I started years ago which has morphed into this huge social network. When I first started Cyqo (pronounced like psycho) Music I had in mind a blog where I posted music and news which was interesting to me. That was OK except within a month artists had sent me a stack of CDs and Demo tapes so high I didn't have enough time in a week to go through it all. So I decided to embrace the whole Web 2.0 theory, and instead of me being the sole person who decided which music ended up on the page, I opened it up to everyone.

A few bad programmers later I decided to go pick up a book on PHP Coding, and a year later what you see is what you get. Cyqo Music is now one "kick ass site" as so many users like to say. Cyqo users and artists can visit the site, and join the community quite easily. We also have decided to offer a hosting service for artists/bands who need a secure safe place to put their mp3s. I still update the main page with music that I like, with one exception. Instead of scouring Myspace, and other places to find great talent, users stop by and say "Hey Mike, check this out and post it if you think people will like it", which I am more than happy to do.

It is all FREE. That's right. No DRM. No piracy. No illegal actions. We're here to be a safehouse for music fans. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) needs to decide exactly what the future holds for their music industry. In the meantime we're growing. And everybody is welcome to join.

Each artist and fan is given a FREE web page with an easy to remember url like http://www.cyqo.com/username. Fans can come by and drop information about the band, show dates, fan pages etc. Its an open forum for music lovers, fans and artists alike.

Who is Mike?

Mike is the guy sitting here writing this. I'm your first Best Friend on the website. I'm here to answer any questions you may have. A little about me: I am a guy who has been "blogging since before blogging became blogging" as one guy put it. I'm a champion of Open Source technology, and everything intellectually free. This is my personal project. So welcome, lets be friends.

Yeah that was me, and I am sorry if I assigned too much homework - "they" made me do it! Oh yeah, and thanks for that Business Calculus report you did...told you ".com's" weren't dead!

So who is Benny?

Benny, who's real name is also Mike (but we thought it would be too confusing for two Mikes to be on the site) is a guy who comes over and eats MY pizza, drinks MY beer and listens to YOUR music. He is obviously an invaluable asset to the company.

What can you do for my band?

We are always looking out for the bands on CYQO.COM - In the past we have given away CDs in high schools, stopped by festivals, etc. We take care of the bands who take care of us. Send us promotional stuff and we'll get it to your target audience:

Technical Stuff

Our site is hosted on Linux Servers, created on a Linux Desktop, and works best in FireFox. All free stuff for you to use, and we aim to please, freely. No Microsoft products were used in the making or maintaining of this site. There are a ton of free music mixing programs that you can download for free on Linux. Give it a shot.

Who Owns the Music?

You do! The ONLY thing you agree to let us do with your music after uploading is put it in our weekly podcast. We actually own a few music releated sites, so the track might get thrown in another podcast. If this is a problem, contact me and we'll mark you down on the "DO NOT PODCAST ME" list.
