About Kylyra

Releases available on iTunes
Red Book
Kylyra - Red Book

VOX
Kylyra - Vox

Heavily schooled in classical music and a seasoned performer by the age of 16, Kylyra left the musical scene for a number of years until she was persuaded by her brother KarrArikh Tor to begin performing again. She joined the Dark World group of artists in 1995 and her first comeback appearance was highlighted in the Milwaukee (Wisconsin) weekly public access television series Ennui Entertainment Presents video "Into the Unknown" (MATA 14/47 - air date 11-10-95).

Driven by her natural musical abilities and inspired by the European techno sound (particularly Sven Vaeth's Accident in Paradise release), Kylyra began writing her own melodies while simultaneously experimenting with the improvisation group Stygian Tars in 1996.

Her first solo EP in the summer of 1997, First Steps was released as a limited run but proved to be popular both locally and internationally, and quickly became a club-mix favourite of DJs. The following three years proved to be emotionally taxing on Kylyra, and while still working on club remixes for compilations and additional EPs, she began writing the epic theatrical release Ishtar's Ascent.

Ishtar's Ascent, released in 1999, reflected Kylyra's personal struggles and presented her fans with an entirely new sound. While still including some of her signature techno rhythms combined with classical melodies, Ishtar's Ascent saw the beginning of Kylyra's solo singing career as well as introducing her audience to her darker and more brooding side. Gothic and dark side radio programmes world-wide raved over her use of theatrical interludes and haunting environments.

Kylyra was persuaded to remaster her favourite tracks on Red Book, offering a fresh look at her ever developing sound. As an added bonus to her old fans Kylyra included the never before released song The Karmic Circle (recorded with her brother, KarrArikh Tor) as well as In the Land of Death and Joy 2004, a new multi-tracked version of her classic opening song from Ishtar's Ascent.

In 2007 Kylyra went into the studios once again, this time to finally finish the long-awaited full length release VOX. What has emerged is a harder-edged, industrial tinged sound with dynamic vocals ranging from the sensual wailing on The Lizard King to angry metal-edged Wag on Demand.

INFLUENCES/SOUNDS LIKE: (musically) Bjork, Peter Murphy, Sven Vaeth, Dead Can Dance (vocally) Ann Wilson, Nina Simone, Janis Joplin, Nine Hagen

Thanks! Yeah, gotta keep it real. I always write about stuff like that. One thing I hate is when people pretend these things don't exist. Let me know when you get that song up, I'll check it out! :)

Hey Kylyra! We've had a one remix but would like more. You can download the mp3 of the song and play around with it, we could get you tracks of the song, but that might take a while.
We're always interested in seening what the creativity of someone else can do with our music and I must say that we are REALLY impressed with what folks have been doing with it.
